As we enter into our second year and fourth issue of Building Perspective magazine, I can’t help reflecting on the changes we have seen over just those few short years, especially the evolution of our market. Adaptation, for us and for many of our vendors, is the name of the game.

It seems that market trends change more quickly and last for shorter periods of time now than ever in the past. We have to continue to find ways to stay on top of those changes and adapt in order to ride the crest of the waves they create.

In years past, we saw much expansion in the R&D field. Yet the last few years brought about slowed spending and high competition for those clients. Now, in just the last few quarters, we are again seeing renewed commitment to capital expenditures in that field, and we need to be there, listening to the updated needs and adapting to meet them.

We have also witnessed an ongoing trend for customers leaning toward a more personal agenda. There has been an increase in spending on hospitality and vacation venues closer to home. For us, this has been reflected in our involvement in numerous country club projects and vacation homes along the Jersey Shore. Additionally, we have seen increased spending on pets, and we have once again adapted to meet the new and specialized needs of that market segment.

The bottom line is we need to continue to watch, listen, and adapt in order to be there to meet the needs of an ever-changing marketplace. Read about some of our activities in this issue and the many contractors involved in our continued success after 52 years.

Sincerely,
Gary R. Drumheller, President
